1. Ivermectin is a derivative of Abamectin. Ivermectins belong to the semi-synthetic broad-spectrum resistant parasites.
2. Ivermectin is effective against most nematodes of all life cycles.
3. Ivermectin has an effect on Onchocerciasis microfilariae, but has no effect on Onchocerciasis adults.

In veterinary medicine, ivermectin powder is used against many intestinal worms (but not tapeworms), most mites, and some lice. Still, it's not effective at getting rid of ticks, flies, trematodes, or fleas. It is effective against larval heartworms but not adults, although it may shorten their lifespan. The dosage of the drug has to be measured very accurately because overdose can be very toxic.
It is sometimes used in combination with other medicines to treat a variety of animal parasites. However, some dog breeds (notably Rough Collie, Smooth Collie, Shetland Sheepdog, and Australian Shepherd) have a high incidence of certain mutations in the MDR1 gene (encoding P-glycoprotein); The toxic effects of ivermectin are particularly sensitive.
Clinical evidence suggests that kittens are susceptible to ivermectin toxicity. A 0.01% topical formulation of ivermectin (Acarexx) is available for the treatment of feline ear mites.
Ivermectin is sometimes used as an acaricide for reptiles by injection and in diluted spray form. While this works well in some cases, care must be taken as several reptiles are very sensitive to ivermectin. It is especially contraindicated for use on sea turtles.
