Low calorie
Lactitol has a lower calorie, this is because its metabolic pathway is different from sucrose, lactitol in the small intestine can not be digested and absorbed, and in the large intestine by microbial fermentation and decomposition of short-chain fatty acids and other fermentation products, the release of pure heat is only 50% of the general sugar. This allows lactitol to be used alone or in combination with other sweeteners as a substitute for sucrose in low-caloric health foods.
Obesity prevention
The intake of high-fat food and sucrose will stimulate the secretion of InS in the blood, improve the activity of riboprotease in adipose tissue, and thus promote the accumulation of neutral fat in cells. The intake of lactitol will not cause the rise of InS, nor increase the activity of nucleoprotein lipase, so it will not promote the accumulation of neutral fat in the body when ingested with high-fat food. Therefore, from a preventive point of view, it is beneficial to replace sucrose with lactitol, which is low in calories and does not stimulate InS rise, in foods high in fat and sucrose.
Prevent dental caries
Lactitol has a strong function of preventing dental caries. Compared with sucrose, lactitol causes almost no plaque formation. Clinical experiments have confirmed that lactitol will not be fermented by microorganisms in the mouth to produce acid, and this acid can destroy the tooth enamel through deionization, resulting in dental caries, so lactitol can be used to make anti-caries health food, such as chewing gum, chocolate, various candies and so on.
Bifidum proliferating factor
Lactitol is stable in the mouth, stomach and small intestine and is not digested or absorbed. When entering the large intestine, it is easy to be decomposed by microbial fermentation. Bifidobacterium is particularly prominent, which can proliferate to 10 to 100 times the original. Substances such as lactitol that can make bifidobacterium greatly proliferate are called bifidobacterium proliferation factors in medicine. Bifidobacterium is a normal bacteria that is very beneficial to the body in the human digestive tract. It and other bacteria in the human body attach to the intestinal wall according to a certain population, forming a stable microecological balance, playing a biological barrier, providing nutrition, improving immunity and other functions.
