Radiation resistance
Ferulic acid, as a phenolic plant component, has strong antioxidant activity and plays a great role in promoting human health. Ferulic acid can significantly increase the content of glutathione and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate in irradiated cells, which has a protective effect on irradiated endothelial cells. Heme oxygenase is an antioxidant enzyme, which can convert heme into biliverdin and eventually into the antioxidant bilirubin. Ferulic acid can regulate the expression of this enzyme well, thus playing a protective role in radiation protection.
Antioxidant function
Studies have shown that ferulic acid can kill free radicals and restore the normal function of living organisms, ferulic acid can inhibit the enzymes that produce free radicals in living organisms, and on this basis, it can also increase the enzymes that remove free radicals. At the same time, ferulic acid can greatly enhance the activities of lucidase reductase and glutamine sulfotransferase, and control the proportion of active tyrosinase. Studies have shown that ferulic acid has a significant antioxidant effect on superoxide free radical, hydroxyl free radical, nitro peroxide and so on.
Antibacterial and antiviral function
In recent years, there have been many reports about the significant inhibitory effect of ferulic acid on cold virus (IV), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and AIDS virus (HIV). The effect of ferulic acid on inflammatory protein was studied in the same cell line, and the result was that ferulic acid could dramatically reduce the production of this protein.
